Is it all right for churches to have bake sales?
If the money goes to the church or missions work, I don't have any problem with bake sales. Sometimes it takes a special motivation to get people to give to a cause.
I do note two areas in which churches should use caution. The sale of goods should never be used for someone's personal profit. Further, the venture should never be allowed to become a distraction from the operations of the church.
When it comes to funding ministries, love offerings are far superior to bake sales. When people give money, 100 percent of the funds can go to the cause. When churches rely on selling products to raise money, the profit margin can be as low as 20-30 percent.
